R-CAT Documentation

The Respiratory Competence Assessment Tool (R-CAT) was developed during 2008 to assist nurses and midwives build competence in relation to the care and management of patients/ clients with Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) needs. It is based on learning needs arising from the Respiratory Health and Well-being Service Framework(RHWSF) standards for service delivery in Northern Ireland.

Using the R-CAT.

The R-CAT is made up of four domains. Each domain has individual areas of competence which have been arranged by tier for easy download and printing, each section containing between 4 and 9 pages to print off, according to the selection you make.

Domain 1: Core Learning and Development (Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3)

Domain 2: Assessment and Monitoring Activities (Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3)

Domain 3: Technological Interventions (Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3)

Domain 4: Health Promotion (Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3)
