The following document has been adapted from the NIPEC Learning Needs Analysis (LNA) for Managers and Team Leaders and it provides guidance on how to use a structured LNA approach to inform the development of personal development plans with your staff. Learning Needs Analysis documentation
To begin the process of a Learning Needs Analysis (LNA), as Managers and Team Leaders, you need to have a clear vision of your current services, potential developments and areas for improvement. A SWOT analysis allows you to examine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to your service or team in order to identify areas for improvement. This will help you to get a clear understanding of what are the requirements for your future service delivery and from that determine the learning and development required for team members to help everyone involved enhance their competence, improve their performance and as a result provide safe and effective care.
