This is the current commissioning cycle for Nursing and Midwifery Post Registration Education and it is proposed that a similar cycle will be developed for AHPs.

Nursing Commissioning Cycle of DHSSPS Post-Registration Education Commissioning

The Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) is accountable for the management of a budget to support the education, training and development needs of post-registered nurses and midwives to ensure that this workforce has the skills and competencies to deliver safe and effective care to patients and clients. Education and training needs of the nursing and midwifery workforce are identified by Health and Social Care (HSC) Trusts in Northern Ireland on a yearly basis. Programmes are purchased by the DHSSPS from education providers, and form part of a commissioning process or cycle which has 4 phases.
